suku houses

Three homes with every detail designed by us, right in the heart of Berawa, Canggu.

The knowledge we’ve built up of local materials and craftsmanship across Indonesia has led us here, to our first development.

Suku houses are being crafted from the ground up. From architecture that responds to the site and Berawa as a neighbourhood, to handmade interiors that look and feel good to be around.

We knew the spaces had to be right for different situations. Light and cool in the heat of the day and a cosy sanctuary at night. Lots of space for staying guests, good areas for entertaining, but places for privacy when it’s needed. It’s why we’ve imagined every corner of every room, down to the last detail.

Suku houses are located in Gang Layur, a small avenue with only the neighbours’ houses around. It's a quiet, tucked away little residential road, but walk to the top of the avenue and you’re on Jalan Pantai Berawa, with all of its one-off cafes, restaurants and wellness spots.

We wanted the architecture to feel modern, crisp and calming, while still reflecting the tropical, Bali beach-town feeling of Berawa. It's also important for us to showcase local craftsmanship and use sustainable materials where we can.

We’ve used a local limestone for the creamy natural hand-cut brickwork of the façade, recycled teakwood for the upper level screening and Greensense concrete throughout.
