- Cepaka Village, Tabanan, Bali
- In Construction - expected 2019
This three-bedroom villa will be home to a couple who travel between Bali and the overseas. They wanted a place where they could easily accommodate guests who visit, but also felt cozy when it was just the two of them. Keeping the house energy efficient was also important to them, which we’re always happy to hear.
All materials were simple, local and easily sourced. We used a rough exposed finish and a local stone for the walls to help keep the house cool. The recycled teakwood cladding on the outside and inside helps to give things a warmer, homely feeling.
We designed big skylights in the roof and openable windows all around the upstairs to let in lots of natural light and to get views out to surrounding coconut groves. There’s also a large overhang on the roof to protect from the massive downpours the village gets during the rainy season.
Downstairs the sliding glass doors that wrap around the whole living space can be opened all the way up – great for ventilation and when you’re entertaining guests. Closing them back up is perfect for evenings in front of the telly.
