The future of fast food is already here. Plant Cartel is a 100% plant based fast food restaurant in Batu Bolong, Canggu.

The owners asked us to work on full concept – the building, interiors and brand.

Working from an existing commercial unit. The owners wanted to use the whole of the upstairs and most of downstairs for the restaurant, leaving a small part for a future retail space.

We wanted to play on ideas of traditional fast food joints – all-American, diner-style, no fuss and everyone welcome but with references to the location and modern feeling updates.

A lot was achieved in a small space with this project. We remodeled the building with a new roof, kitchen, washroom, storage, staff spaces and a stairwell. We added a raised level outside so we could fit in outdoor seating, and designed large sliding windows both upstairs and downstairs to open up views out and in to the restaurant.

Inside, Plant Cartel is a mix of ceramic tiles, bright yellow diner booths and industrial style hanging lights, with woven pandan leaf covered ceilings and dark teakwood tables. If you get the chance to go, we recommend the Double Pleeseburger with everything on the side.
