The brief for this one known as Tumbak Bayuh House, was to create a sustainable family home with rice field and river views.
The home required space for two adults and two young childern.
With childern running around, preventing over-heating was an important aspect of the design. So, we designed the house with a ventilation stack, to give passive ventilation throughout the home all day and reduce the need for air conditioning. We also added big roof overhangs on both floors, to protect the inside spaces from the glaring sun and tropical rains.
We wanted to make this Tumbak Bayuh House a fun and interactive space for both adult and childern. Therefore, we added lots of trees and planting in the house, which also helped to create an indoor-outdoor living feel. The living room, kitchen and terrace areas are all open plan and look out on-to a 12-metre lap pool with a Mediterranean inspired courtyard.
We designed the Tumbak Bayuh House with a relatively low building footprint, and used all local materials, including reclaimed teakwood cladding and Bali riverstone.
