A residential development exploring slow, landscape-led living in rural Bali.
Set within a green rural landscape in the south-west of Bali, The Kaba-Kaba Project is our design response to the need for a more thoughtful approach to villa development on the island.
This project is our second private development, conceived and designed by our studio from the ground up. Since establishing our practice in Bali in 2015, we have built up a deep knowledge of construction processes, materials and craftsmanship across Indonesia. Through projects like Kaba-Kaba, we are able to apply that knowledge directly — shaping places not only as designers, but also through the lens of development and long-term stewardship.
Four family homes, each carefully crafted and detailed, sit within 2,918 m² of landscaped grounds and gardens, arranged around a shared central well-being space designed to foster a small residential community.
Home and villa design in Bali needs to slow down and be reconsidered. Much of what is currently being built does not meaningfully address people’s well-being or the environmental challenges the island faces.
At Kaba-Kaba, sustainability — both in design and long-term operation — sits at the heart of the project. Local natural materials and Indonesian craftsmanship play a central role, supporting a more considered and grounded approach to residential living.
Access to the community is via a private three-metre road, leading to a 24-hour manned security post. Within the site, four two-storey family homes are positioned carefully at each corner of the land, surrounding a shared central well-being space.
This communal area includes a 20-metre natural water pool, gym, sauna, cold plunge, yoga space, shared open kitchen and dining, a produce garden and a children’s nature play area.
Along the eastern boundary of the site, two five-bedroom homes are nestled into the landscape, while the western edge accommodates two four-bedroom houses.
Lush tropical planting and landscaping run throughout the entire site — from generous private gardens to shared spaces — promoting biodiversity while creating shaded outdoor environments that help keep the development naturally cool.
