Voted one of Conde Naste’s ‘Best Looking Restaurants’ in 2018, Ulu Cliffhouse sits around 30 metres above Uluwatu beach.
The initial concept for this project was provided by interior design studio Shed London, and
we re-worked some design aspects to make things fit for the location, whilst staying as close as we could to the original idea.
Before it was the Ulu Cliffhouse, this beach club started life as an unfinished villa with an empty 25 metre infinity pool. Working from the existing construction the
original buildings were transformed into the arrival area and retail spaces. We built open-air timber extensions on the right and left sides of the site for the bars and restaurant. And at the very front, over-hanging the cliff’s edge, two terrace spaces were added with daybeds and banquette seating.
But the cherry on top at Ulu Cliffhouse is a secret little location right on the cliff boulders down below the main area. For this spot we designed the Bar on the Rocks, which was built on a set of reclaimed timber platforms and shaded by climbing plants and Katapang trees. It has the best seats in the house for surf watching and sunset.
All of the furniture, fittings and fabrics at Ulu were procured by us locally.
