A coastal resort drawing inspiration from the vernacular architecture and craft traditions of Lombok.
Boni Beach Resort sits just back from the shoreline of Serangan Beach in the Selong Belanak region of South Lombok.
The resort comprises eight suite rooms, three bungalows, two four-bedroom villas and an owner’s residence, alongside shared guest facilities including an all-day dining restaurant, swimming pool and sunset rooftop terrace and bar.
The architectural concept draws from the traditions of Sasak villages found across Lombok. Elements of the local vernacular were carefully reinterpreted within a contemporary beach resort setting, creating a balance between cultural reference and modern hospitality.
A palette of earthy tones and natural materials anchors the project to its surroundings. Grass roofs, timber cladding and natural stone walls reference the materials typically found on the outer edges of traditional Sasak settlements, while maintaining a refined and cohesive architectural language.
The restrained architectural palette allowed the interiors to introduce softer, organic forms that contrast with the clean-lined structures, creating spaces that feel relaxed yet considered.
Craft traditions from across Lombok are integrated throughout the interiors, including ikat textiles from Pringgasela village, Lombok pottery and Ketak woven baskets and homewares.
Boni Beach Resort opened in early 2023.
