A Mediterranean-inspired restaurant exploring materiality, colour and contemporary hospitality design in Bali.
Luma Restaurant sits within the coastal neighbourhood of Canggu, Bali, an area that has evolved into one of the island’s most active hospitality districts.
The interior architecture was designed to establish a distinct identity within this competitive culinary landscape while responding to the social rhythm of Bali’s day-to-night lifestyle.
The spatial layout allows the restaurant to shift naturally throughout the day. A front terrace and amphitheatre-style sunken lounge provide relaxed spaces for daytime gathering and informal working, while the central dining room and front and back bars transition into more animated evening settings.
The design concept draws from Mediterranean coastal architecture, referencing rugged shorelines, arched openings and a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor space.
These influences are balanced with both a contemporary post-modern design approach inspired by Milan’s experimental design culture, and a palette of materials and craft local to Bali and Indonesia. Playful combinations of texture, colour and sculptural furniture introduce moments of contrast against the more restrained architectural framework.
Luma Restaurant opened in June 2022.
