This is part one of a larger hotel interior and re-modelling project for Lumi.
Based in Gili Trawangan, Lumi was originally designed by Andra Matin in 2019. The client wanted to renovate and redesign the interior spaces, making it consistent with Matin’s original design concept for the hotel and beachclub. Matin’s work is based in the idea of “a contemporary take on traditional values”. Using this as our basis, we used one of Indonesia’s most prominent traditional crafts, core across all of its differing cultural identities – fabric and textiles.
Used throughout the design of our entire interior concept for Lumi, we researched symbols from across Indonesia’s islands used in traditional ikat and batik. From this we partnered with craftspeople to custom-made (by hand) fabrics, rugs, ceramics and tiles, featuring our contemporary take on these symbols and patterns.
In this first phase, the beachclub, we have designed and managed the production of all interior spaces, which include the beach and bar areas, the retail space and the restrooms. All furniture, fittings, lighting and hand-made fabrics were designed by us.
Phase two of our work for Lumi is coming soon.
