A contemporary beach house with subtle cultural cues. This recently completed project, was a comprehensive renovation of an existing Surin villa located in Surin Beach, Phuket in Thailand.

From rustic beach villas in Indonesia and Mexico, to artisanal riads in Morocco, to design-leading holiday homes in western Europe – we have mixed interior references from coastal towns around the world, whilst giving a nod to Thailand in order to create a unique Thai beach house interior that is fit for a modern family. 

The look of Tadelakt style plaster was used throughout the Surin villa to give a light and natural backdrop to the wooden furniture, rich textiles and bold artwork. We will mainly use stucco effect water-based paints for the walls, and the traditional lime material and artisanal technique in wet areas due to its waterproofing properties. Tadelakt also has the added benefits of being antibacterial and antifungal due to its naturally high pH value. 

Black matt taps, lighting, doors and window frames aim to modernise the existing building, and also bring in an adaptable colour for adding character with textiles and furniture pieces. Low ceilings have been covered with synthetic rattan to further brighten the bathroom spaces and incorporate the beach style. Double linen curtains of colours white and clay create privacy, whilst also allowing the natural light to shine through. 

All furniture pieces and fittings were carefully selected and procured through us in Indonesia and Shipped to Thailand. These pieces construct a bespoke and considered interior that not only brings comfort but is leading in design to ensure future value is added to the owners’ home away from home.
